IPC-IG Launches New Edition of Policy in Focus Magazine on Social Protection, Entrepreneurship and Labour Market Activation
In partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) has launched a new edition of its flagship magazine Policy in Focus on the topic of social protection, entrepreneurship and labour market activation.
Despite significant development gains registered in recent decades, developing countries still face considerable challenges in regard to the fight against poverty and hunger. In this scenario, redistributive cash transfer programmes have emerged as important for the pursuit of poverty reduction and eradication. However, critics have expressed concerns about that such social grants could lead to dependency among the beneficiaries, dissuade them from seeking work, or reinforce traditional gender roles.
The new edition of the magazine features 12 articles in which authors seek to answer these and other questions, exploring the unintended negative positive impact of cash transfers on families and communities in several countries, while bringing to light some of the related challenges limits such transfers.
